Uinta Night Sky

Despite a very rainy week, I was surprised to find a clear and moonless sky while camping up in the Uinta Mountains over the weekend. The stars up there were amazing and I caught a few photos before clouds rolled in for the rest of the weekend.

Moonlit Fire

I was out photographing the State Fire yesterday on the Utah/Idaho border. I was getting ready to leave as fire crews began a burnout operation. I moved down the road a bit and was able to get this shot of the moon as the fire reached the mouth of Portage Canyon.

I hung around and got this photo about an hour later as the moon set and crews worked their way further down the canyon.

Saddlehorn Rock, Colorado National Monument

I made a quick trip to Colorado National Monument this weekend. I'll have some photos up some from the day, but I also played around a bit shooting at night. This is from a large tower known as Saddlehorn Rock at around 11pm.

I left the shutter open for 30 seconds to get the image while slowly panning a flashlight over the rocks. The glow in the clouds comes from the town of Fruita, several miles away.
