High School Hunters Awards

I've been lucky enough to get some surprising e-mails this last few days about my recent slideshow on youth duck hunting. It started last week when I found out that the piece got first place in the National Press Photographers Association's monthly contest for audio slideshows. I woke up yesterday to find out that the piece also placed in the top five in the Hearst Multimedia Competition. Thank you to the folks at both Hearst and the NPPA.

Fall Creek Falls

After our original hiking plans fell through, we went to Fall Creek in Jones Gap State Park along the South Carolina-North Carolina border. The creek is made up of a long chain of waterfalls.

Tennessee Treehouse

Yes, this is the world's largest treehouse. That is the claim from the owner at least and no one has challenged it. In the middle of a 16 hour drive to South Carolina, we stopped briefly in Crossville, Tennessee to see the ten-story wonder. The treehouse was built by hand out of scrap wood over a decade ago when the owner had a vision from God commanding him to build it. Enjoy these few photos.

New Year's Cows

When I got home yesterday afternoon, our neighbor's cows were up at our house with a nice sunset. My camera has been on the fritz for the last week or two, but I dug out my old camera and shot a few frames. Happy 2012.

And there was a brand new calf....

Pinhook, Missouri

On May 2, the Birds Point Levee along the Mississippi River was blown as part of a plan to prevent further flooding downstream. Half a year later, the town of Pinhook that sat behind the levee sits empty as residents look for a "new Pinhook." Check out the great article that this piece went with in the Columbia Missourian.

Food Drive

Today is the One for One Holiday Food Drive. I went out this morning to photograph the main collection site in downtown Columbia. The goal is to collect donations and funds for one million pounds of food. Donations can be made until 6pm today at the corner of Providence and Broadway or you can donate $10 to the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri by texting BREAD to 20222.
